I've tried to do this with several modules and the files are now contained in /bookmarkarticles/modules/module-folder/module_install.php but I still don't see the module listed in my module management screen, any suggestions? I've tried with 3 separate modules and same thing each time.....

What modules are you trying to install? Are you able to see the default modules that come with Pligg in the module management page?

Most likely one of those modules you uploaded was for a different version of Pligg and is corrupting everything else from showing up in your module management list. I would recommend removing all the "other" modules you uploaded.

Not sure if you've tried this but what I just found was that when you extract a module you have to double click on the folder and then you'll see another folder called module, its the contents of this folder that you need to upload to htttp://yoursite.com/modules/

ie: xml_sitemap_1.0.zip, when you extract this you get a folder called xml_sitemap_1.0, inside this folder is another folder called modules, and inside that folder is another folder called xml_sitemaps, it is this 3rd folder that you need to upload to http://yoursite.com/modules/

It would be a lot simpler for noobs if modules extracted to a folder called modules that contained just the module ie > Extract > Modules > xml_sitemaps

I have a probably very easy problem, but i don't know what to do though.

I activated the "sidebar comments" plugin and "top stories" which are included in the default Pligg installation. I can see them now in "installed plugins" an they also have a checked checkbox.

But in the frontend of my site there are no comments and no top stories in the sidebar. But I do have postet links/stories and I also have two comments there.

Why can't I see my activated plugins?

EDIT: I attached two images...one shows my installed modules and one shows the frontend, which has none of these sidebar modules in it...

What template are you using? Templates require "module hooks" which are used to figure out where the modules should insert the data.

I'm using the default template...it's called "wistie" I believe.

I also tried to have a look into the "sidebar.tpl" and "sidebar2.tpl" I think there is some kind of code which is for these modules, but I'm not a coding pro. But it is the default template that came with the installation, and I didn't touch the code.

Do I have to make any changes somewhere in the admin settings? Or do I need to add code to a part of the template? I can post further informations if you need any specific info.

EDIT:
The only added modules that worked without any problems are the "AddThis"-module and the "Upload Image"-module.
