How to fix the SEO friendly mod?

I have enable the SEO friendly option but this has broken all the links in my site, including the upcoming news tabs AND the admin ones so now I cannot turn it back off!

I have renamed the htaccess.default file to .htaccess as instructed so what am I doing wrong? I have read the tutorial in the General Help forum but that is very basic and just explains what is already said in the Category Management section.

How can I fix this? I do want the SEO friendly option ON but how do I make the navigation links work? And how am I going to get back into the admin panel when these links have been effected too?

You want to also move the .htaccess file to the default directory.
