I bought a sitemap feature from Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps yesterday and had it up and running in quick time.

It costs $20. You upload it to your server, and access it through w ww.mywebsite/generator. It is highly configurable and it was easy to set up a cron job through my cpanel so that I now have a new sitemap at midnight once a day. The instructions that come with it are clear and simple to follow.

I know that there is the option of converting the rss feed into a sitemap, but I've found using this tool is preferable.

I haven't looked into it but there is a affiliate scheme of $5 per sign up.

I was wondering whether this could be a way of Pligg earning a little more cash.

Regards,

Andy

I've only just recently launched so there isn't much to index.

However, two to three days to crawl!

I might have to kiss it goodbye if that is the case in the future.

I have it running on several of my sites. The generator does take a long time to run, I have seen it take over a three weeks to finish running, and I am on two different virtual dedicated servers. There are some problems if you don't have full control of the server. For example, there is a limit to how long a PHP script can run on most servers, so your cron job needs to run several times a day to keep the program running. It varies from server to server.

I have also found that the XML Sitemaps crashes with memory allocation errors when the php.ini file has a memory limit of less than 128MB, and even when I increased that to 256MB it took twice as long to crashes but never finished indexing my site.

Its a great tool if your site only adds a few links per day or if it hasn't been around for long, but if you have lots of stories, and other things on your site then it might not be the best option.

Lately the support is mediocre. You are supposed to get support for it, but it tends to be just one guy and he only replied once every week to questions, and generally aren't helpful.

Make sure if you use this on your pligg site, you probablly want to exclude things like login.php? so that you aren't getting multiple return=/XXXX links in your sitemap that just take up space, and time for the generator.

Thats my two cents....
