Any ideas? I will provide any info if you wish to provide a little support.
What version of Pligg are you using? This hack has only been tested v. 9.8.2, so I cannot verify that it works on any other version. Also, did you change the "category 1, catgeory 2, etc." names to your actual category names?

Just curious how you found this information out? Do you use any kind of software to help you detect duplicate content and/or page titles from Google? If so, what is it? I'd be interested in anything that helps remove the dups! :-)

Blaze, if you go to the Google Webmaster Tools console...

Go to... Diagnostics and then... Content analysis...

It lists duplicate meta descriptions, which just reinforces what we already know... duplicate meta descriptions does matter to Google.

I've been working on my site for the last couple of days, and the coding recommendations on this thread are on my list of things to do...

I'll report back.

In using Google Webmaster Tools, here is the data I have:

Title tag issues:
We didn't detect any issues with the title tags on your site.

Duplicate meta descriptions 0
Long meta descriptions 0
Short meta descriptions 0

Non-indexable content issues:
We didn't detect any issues with non-indexable content on your site.

Am I to presume that this result is actually correct, and if so, is this good news? Or does it take a while before these errors (if any) have shown up?

This particular site I used as an example is only about 7 weeks old, with only about 650 pages indexed thus far -- which is about where it should be at as far as story/category count goes.

I'm using 9.8.0... and yeah I changed everything properly.

I'll fool around with it some more and report back.

Is this after you put the hack to work?

I'm just about to implement this mod, and currently it is reading 7 duplicate meta descriptions, although actually it must be much more than that.

Yes and no. I didn't use the meta hack until about 1-2 weeks ago... but I had many of my pages blocked purposely using robots.txt file anyway, because I wanted to figure out how to do the meta thing. After I initialized the hack in the code, I then changed my robots.txt -- and the results you see is what I saw. I guess it works pretty good.

It would nice if there were a README doc included on the install for new pliggers to use these hacks BEFOREHAND and what benefits they would receive from them. I am launching a new site soon that will be incorporating all of these duplicate content seo hacks in the forum, so I believe my new site should rank pretty well as opposed to my other sites, which still have some cleaning up to do.

To be fair though, the hack that you provided was only given to the community on December 24, so it would be hard to incorporate that into a readme document.

And to be honest, I don't think that the developers should recommend hacks into the core files...

I must have about 15 or more hacks (sorry, mods ) on my site now...

Which is fine, they do the job I want them to... for this version... but getting worried about upgrading to the next Pligg version... when it comes...
