Anyway, back to the topic, what I was trying to say is that:
1) the guy asked for help with story submission recaptcha, not registration. Not sure what's so negative about.
2) if you take care of registration using a captcha, you cannot rest assured your Pligg will be spam free - malicious users can still signup manually which take a couple of seconds, then run an automation script based on that login data. So I guess that is why most of us are interested in both registration and submission captchas, or at least I do. |
1: I was not replying to the original thread poster. I was replying to your post is which you were complaining that you didn't have captcha on your submissions. I tried to explain twice that pligg does not have this. Apparently my explanation was not good enough or comprehensive enough.
2: No one ever said a pligg site will ever be completely spam free. The actually definition of spam covers a lot of territory. Just because a pligg site admin doesn't like a submission, it shouldn't automatically be defined as spam. Pligg is a wide open social news script. Allowing anyone to submit just about anything. You should realize that. If you do not have time to actively monitor your social network, then you should not be running a social site.
We do everything possible to reduce spam. You can't possibly think that the developers can perceive what you assume or "might consider spam".
Do you seriously believe that having someone register with a captcha, then submit a story with a captcha, and again have to reply to a comment with another captcha is the way to go? Your users would leave like flies.
If you have any rational suggestions, we would love to hear them.
