Kindly Asking For A Little Assistant In Installing Pligg

I know I need a domain and to purchase a host, after that how do I install the pligg software. Is there any step by step instructions. Please help I'm kind of new to this. What is the best FTP to use and when do I use it? Thank you everyone in advance.

    1. Ftp: Fireftp if you use Firefox, Filezilla if you want a dedicated FTP program. These are both free.
    2. Mysql: Your host needs to support mysql databases. You will need to learn how to create a new database through their admin panel. Write down the database details (username, password, database name and location).
    3. PHP: Most likely are your host will support PHP, but if you have a choice between PHP 4 or PHP 5 go with 5.
    4. Upload the Pligg files to your server into a folder that is viewable by the public. The folder will be called somethign like /public_html, /yourdomain.com, /www, there are a million configurations as to where this would be, please check with your host if you can't figure it out.
    5. Open the /readme.html file included with Pligg from your server. The readme file will guide you the rest of the way.

Thank you a ton YanKidank. Is using Internet Explorer an option or this is not a good choice to use? Also would you happen to know if Small Orange a good hosting?

Generally, Internet Explorer is frowned upon by web designers. The majority of the world uses it though because it comes installed with Windows computers so it's fine to use. You might want to look into trying out Firefox though. If you don't want to just use Filezilla as mentioned above to FTP.

Never heard of Small Orange web hosting, sorry.
A friend of mine called me today and told me that Dreamhost is offering a limited time Promo code that will get you 1 year of hosting for $10 when you use the promo code 777 during checkout. They've offered this deal in the past and it usually only lasts a week so if you are interested I would act fast. Also, that promo code doesn't get me any referral credit so you know its a good deal because I'm not benefiting from telling you to use it. If you have a kind heard you can always use the normal Pligg promo code "PLIGG", but it won't beat the 777 Dreamhost promo going on now.
We test on a Dreamhost server and they are probably the most Pligg-friendly host out there. Once we get 1.0 final out they should be upgrading their Pligg one click installer.

I suggest grabbing the latest SVN version provided on this page: Pligg Latest Download Packages. Whenever the SVN is at a point where we have finished a task I upload a zip file that gets put on that page automatically. The zip files are named after the SVN revision number they represent. The higher the number, the newer the release. At this point those SVN releases are more bug free than 1.0.0 RC1. We're about to release a RC2 version probably this evening.

Also thought others would be interested that even I ended up buying a web hosting package from Dreamhost today. The deal was too good to pass up. 1 year of hosting and 1 free domain for something like $9.24.
