I'm getting hella spam in the 'Upcoming News' section of the site. It's like once the know where you live on the internet you're toast.

I bought the spam plugin in the store but that doesn't seem to help.

Is there anyway for me to curb this?

Same thing happing with the 'Comments' section of the site. Any ideas for that?

I would suggest using all the methods listed here.
You might also want to use country blocks in your .htaccess file. Generally most of the spam comes from a few countries that wouldn't normally participate in a niche site anyway.
