I built a profanity filter a few years ago into an SMS application I built. It would not be that difficult to incorporate something similar into pligg.

I don't know if anyone has seen this site

http://www.eatmyhamster.com/

but the submit page is absolutely amazing!!

The form adjusts whether you want to submit a video, picture, story, etc.

Enter an URL and it grabs all the images from that page and you get to pick which one is associated with the story.
You can upload an image as well
For video it asks for the embed code.

Their bookmarklet takes the title and any selected text as well as the URL.

I also like how the embedded videos aren't displayed on the list pages, only on the specific "discuss" pages.

Very slick site, especially the submit page.
Good hunting ground for ideas for Pligg.

Another feature I'd like to see is a way to make a membership-wide email announcement/mail-blast.

You could have a regular newsletter or one-time special announcements when you've added new features, reached a milestone or whatever.

It would help to keep you in the minds of the members.

Or at least an easy way to export your member emails to a file to use in another email app.

The thumbnail thing is really neat, I would love something like that -- even digg is now including auto-thumbs for youtube/google vids.

A few of mine small suggestions:

first idea:
Maybe instead of default "links" there could be something like drupal's 'nodes'
where it could be nodes for video, podcast, regular story link, poems, images, photostories etc.

they could have templates for adding , front display, detail display, and database wise separate db tables and "main table" where items would have node type, rating, posted date, tags, etc"

for example youtube video node - could basing on url could automatically embed video

This would make pligg much more adaptable for different uses

second idea:
Pligg super site – where all pliggs would automatically “publish” hot stories – including links to particular pligg sites, but without possibility to submit stories by regular users. I would have to be sortable by languages, above mentioned node types and sites – maybe in subdomains

Third idea:

merge additional functionality like del.iciu.us links where users could collect their links and when adding link they could select if they would like to submit this link for voting – they could alslo copy other users links and “voted links”

forth idea – templating:

Module positions like its done in mambo/joomla with order sorting
and modules for different functions

fifth idea:
voting on users – users with higher number of votes + karma would have more “voting power” and greater power in “community task” - like spam control
It could be sortable in time periods – could be great for competitions for “This month best user” and could claim prises

For now most of pligg lites look exactly the same this would make customisation easier – smarty could be used for modules and above mentioned nodes types

Please tell what do you thing?

[[ - straight away to full working 2 instead of any further beta ]]

- optimisation for better speed at high number of concurrent connections
- ability to put off smarty if someone wants ( contradicting above ? but the option )
- keeping it lean and mean ( with add-on modules where needed )
- abilty to VOTE OUT .i.e "vote down or bury"
- making functional the pm
- more easy installation with auto config of paths in config and the fact that for most shared hosts one needs to delete the .htaccess
