Registration requirements: email check

Hello,
In future releases, I think an email-check for registration would be very helpful.

To do this, I recommend when the user registers that the system sends an email to the users account, and they must click on a link that they get in order to register.

Thoughts?

It's been brought up a lot and some users like it and others don't. Some people think that if their users have to go through all that then they won't register or even use the site.

If that's the case -- can you make it optional, and have the admin turn it on or off?
