Red face Specific GoDaddy Help With Pligg (Please Help)

    Hi,

Sorry for the noob question but I have bookmarked and read everything on here --even checked out videos-- and can't figure out how to get Pligg up and running with GoDaddy.

Please don't flame me -- I managed to upload all of Silverbullet files but don't know how to execute the installation so that I can "see" Pligg on my site. I've created a MySql, but do not know how to launch an installation of Pligg where I can see a control panel and configure things. I'm using a Mac and my host is Linux.

    Please help.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

did you installed pligg via http://www.yourdomain.com/install ?

If you did this, so you have to login with your admin account on the main page. After that, you should find an admin link on the navi bar. If you follow this, then you come to the administration desk.

    Best regards from Germany

I hope, that I did not missunderstand you ;-)

Thank you for getting back to me.
I haven't reached the admin stage yet; I am trying to figure out how to get there.
I managed to create a MySql database but do not know how to configure it and I have uploaded the template into my files but don't know where to go from here.

After uploading the files go to the web address of where you uploaded Pligg and add /readme.html to the end of the URL to access the readme file. This should guide you through setting up Pligg for the first Install. Alternatively you could go directly to the installer by going to /install/install.php

    Thanks, Yankidank!

    Another question:
Will my files be jeopardized by the steps I took in changing the names?
Here's what I did to get to the admin stage:

    1) I uploaded the .zip file of Pligg 1.01 into my file manager on GoDaddy, then unzipped it using "unarchive" on my dashboard.
    2) Then I found "settings.php.default" and changed it to "settings.php"
    3) Next, I found "dbconnect.default" in the "libs" folder and changed it to libs/dbconnect.php
    4) Finally, I typed in my URL and added /readme.html and my Pligg text came up, including the admin, install, upgrade and troubleshooter tabs.

Just wanted to know if all of this is going to work since I changed the file names after uploading everything instead of before.

If you unzipped directly on your server make sure that you rename the Pligg directory from "Pligg 1.0.1" to just "pligg".

    hey pliggnyc,

I just tried to email you but it would not let me... Can you email me? I post a message about installing on godaddy.com. What has been your experience(s)? And, how did you solve any problems that came up? Thanks!

How GoDaddy Users Can Install Pligg (in 20 Simple Steps)

    Hi GoDaddy Users:

Here's How to Install Pligg in 20 Simple Steps:
    1) Login to your GoDaddy account & go to your domain's dashboard
    2) When you're in your hosting control center, select the "Databases" tab & click the MySQL database icon
    3) Create a new MySQL database.
    4) Write down the "Host name" because your Pligg setup will request this information later (The Host name looks like this: "databasename.db.7654321.hostedresource.com).
    5) Download Pligg 1.0 (if you haven't already)
    6) In your GoDaddy file manager, find the Pligg file called "settings.php.default" and change it to "settings.php."
    7) Also, locate the file called "libs/dbconnect.php.default" and change it to "libs/dbconnect.php."
    8) The Pligg setup manager will check that it can connect to the database you made in GoDaddy.
    9) If all is well, it will indicate that everything is verified & tell you what to do next.
    10) Select install and the language you'll be using.
    11) In GoDaddy, "chmod 755" (change mode to you having full rights and everybody else just having the right to read & execute) the file "admin_backup.php by clicking on the "permissions" tab in File Manager.
    12) Indicate that you have the right to read, write & execute the file.
    13) Indicate (by checking the appropriate boxes) that everybody else can just read and execute the file.
    14) In GoDaddy, "chmod 777" All Language Files so that everyone, including yourself, can read, write & execute the file.
    15) In GoDaddy, "chmod 666" the libs/dbconnect.php & settings.php files, which means that everyone, including yourself, only has reading & writing permissions for the file.
    16) In the Pligg Manager, enter the GoDaddy host name information as the Pligg "Database Server Info".
    17) You should have some kind of indication that the database updated successfully.
    18) Setup your Pligg Database info (admin, password, etc.)
    19) After successfully installing Pligg, chmod 644 that same libs/dbconnect.php file by going into GoDaddy File Manager and making your permission (6) to read & write the file, group permission to read the file (4) and user permission to read the file (4). Hence, chmod (change mode) 644.
    20) Delete the install directory

    ...And you're done!

If you're still a little confused, here are some resources that might help:
    1) "Unix Permissions" at zzee.com <http://www.zzee.com/solutions/unix-permissions.shtml>
    2) "PHP Basics" at about.com <http://php.about.com/od/phpbasics/ht/chmod.htm>
    3) Website Babble's "How to Chmod A File" <http://www.websitebabble.com/uploading-files-ftp/1667-what-chmod-777-a.html>

    Good Luck!!!!

I'm trying to connect my backed up DB on my desktop to my newly upgraded installation on PHP MyAdmin and it is not working. it says that my file size might be too large. What do I do from here to get around that?
