link_summary call location

OK this is not so strange when you think about it. I have developed a nice secondary index file for the package, that when called displays only the top published listings, so they can be included as a 'feed' directly to a website.. without using rss... to do that i copied and took the index.php and renamed it, then copied pligg.tpl and renamed it, then copied link_summary.php and tpl and renamed them... what I cannot find is why, regardless of the changes made to the new file names, it constanly pulls up the original link_summary.php and tpl files and won't allow me to have that secondary set of html structure to show
the listings as much smaller ones with smaller thumbnails.... (I'm using my own thumbnail process , not a plug in)...

so....

does anyone please have the idea down as to where is the choice made to use link_summary so it is possible to change the filed called??
