Installing Pligg on localhost
This is written for those of us who are running into login issues and other strange issues on localhost. The best setup I have found for running pligg locally is to get wamp 2.0 . After you have wamp you will need to downgrade mysql version and php version.
So click wamp icon goto mysql -> version -> get more!
Should be running MYSQL 5.1.36 Currently <- Had db.php issues in pligg that causes mysql connection to timeout/forceclose thus causing webserver to get stuck in a hang loop.
Find MYSQL Version:
5.1.30
Install it should have wamp installer
SHUT DOWN WEB SERVER MAY RUN INTO ISSUES IF YOU DONT
Activate it in wamp by clicking icon -> mysql - > version - click the version you just installed.
================================================== ======================
Should be running PHP 5.30 Currently
Repeat same steps above for php version you will need php version 5.28
I am not sure exactly if there is a problem with php version so if anyone just downgrades mysql and still have no problems running pligg please mention it. I just think its a good idea to change php version aswell.
================================================== ======================
RUNNING WAMP 2.0 RIGHT AFTER INSTALL WILL WORK BUT BE WARNED THE REASON I POSTED THIS LITTLE TUTORIAL IS TO PREVENT TIME WASTED DEALING WITH SERVER ISSUES.
I tried pligg and pcms
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLIGG v1.04 <- Login works but after 5 page loads or so server hangs.
PCMS v1.31 <- Login didn't work after 5 page loads or so server hangs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: PCMS is a system I created using smarty and ezmysql connect very similar to pligg. Had all same issues as pligg so I thought it was just as important to show even other apps are buggy and unstable on base wamp platform. Atleast under windows 7 and windows xp sp3

Thanks for posting this I have this issue on almost all of my home computers, I can never work on Pligg locally as it always hangs the first time I install and I haven't been able to figure out why. I'm sure there must be something in the script somewhere, but downgrading to WAMP 2.0 seems to fix it so I'm happy with that.

I tried installing with just the MySQL change and it worked for a bit, but the admin pages eventually started to load forever and never actually go anywhere. Therefore I think it's required to update both MySQL and PHP.

My WAMP server had exactly the same php/mysql versions, but I'm getting backslashes added to the language selection page in the first page of the install, so none of the links or images work... anybody have any of those kinds of issues working locally on windows?
(I'm running 1.0.4 )

From my observations the localhost issue appears to be related to login. I can navigate around any number of times to the various pages, but once I login that's when it hangs. My installation is in a subdirectory off the localhost.
Perhaps that's a clue for a knowledgable person to understand what may be the root cause. BTW, my wordpress site works fine on the localhost, so the problem is unique to the interactions between pligg and the various components.
Also, I could not get the .htacces file configured properly to work on the localhost. Does anyone have a working .htaccess file for the localhost that they can share?

On Windows OS you must set file permissions at the Local Level not through somthing like WAMP server .
Permissions propagate from lowest level (parent) folder. If your website is at C:\mystuff\www\mysite\ you must set permissions all the way down at the mystuff folder. From windows explorer go to lowest level folder, right click\ properties\security tab

I had these exact hang up problems (set up would load part way, stick on language page, go all the way through install then not let login, very erratic, ect... ) and it took months to figure it out. Its permissions!!

NextHotModels.com Please be more explicit. I've checked every folder and file in every folder and every user of the machine has full control over everything as identified on the security tab. The user i login to the machine with has full control. The machine administrator has full control. What's missing? if you know.

NextHotModels.com So here's what i did. I gave every user on the local machine access, and it worked. There's a bunch of system type users/groups that I gave permission and it worked. it's a boat load. I'd like to know which one exactly it is. Any clue?
