too many categories changes dropdown level?

It seems like when I add to many categories, all of my categories drop down into one other category, making that category the parent category of all other categories. So on my category navbar there is 1 category initially, that has all other categories dropping down from it. Anyone know why this is happening? Something to do with too many subcategories?

Never happened to me before, and I don't think there is no technical limit to the number of categories of subcategories. How many categories are you adding to your site?
