Okay so I go to the admin panel > categories. I have 5 categories and I want to set up sub-categories. It is my understanding that you need to enable URL method 2 in order to create sub-categories to a category topic (I want to add "computers" to the category "technology"). So, I try to enable URL method 2, and here is the issue...In the administration control panel I click

"Click Here to rename htaccess.default to .htaccess to enable URL Method 2"

when i click that I get this message:

Warning: rename(../htaccess.default,../.htaccess) [function.rename]: Permission denied in /var/www/binfo/cms1/admin/admin_categories.php on line 112
We have renamed htaccess.default to .htaccess for you. You still need to manually add the special category structure for it to fully work.

So, I manually change "htaccess.default" to ".htaccess" and the file disappears in my server (i think its because there is a period in front of it and no .default or .php behind the word "htaccess")

Needless to say I do not know enough about Pligg in order to handle this on my own...Can anyone help?!?! Thanks!

The period in front of the .htaccess file needs to be there for it to work.

What I suggest is copying the file to your desktop and renaming it to .htaccess

Then load to your server and it should be visible.

It disappears because the program you are using is told to hide files starting with a period. Open up the settings for whatever program and change it so it won't hide those files.
