Classfieds with Revenue Sharing
Here's my idea for my Pligg website:
I want to create an advertising site, where I can charge advertisers $5.00 a month for posting a classified ad. Simple, and affordable, huh?
However, I also want to integrate it with social networking.
Thus, members, i.e. job or opportunity seekers, can view listings/postings free of charge. All the while, voting on postings/classifieds which appeal most to them; eliminating schemes, spammers, phishers, etc., which are promoted to the front page.
I DO NOT want to elicit personal info from my users, i.e. resumes, to which 'potential employers' can access member details, etc. Nor do I want to charge monthly membership fees.
The whole idea is to offer those looking for real internet income opportunities (ie. job seekers) to share with others, free of charge as members, their ideas and opinions.
While those who wish to advertise 'classified' post to pay a minimum of $5.00 for 30 days of advertising (in classified form) while maintaining a free membership to my website.
I've searched the forums and found no advice.
Any takers on this issue?
Thanks

The only drawback is that you would have to monitor it pretty close. A few hundred IPs and a bunch of accounts and you could have a single advertiser taking over your site in no time. It would till cost him a few bucks... so tell me, would your traffic be worth it?

Of course there would be the same drawbacks as any other classifieds site. However, an IP identifier, you could keep track of how many accounts register from the same IP. Also, the Pligg program would add benefits that most social networks don't. You can 'like' ads on facebook, but members don't get to 'report' on them, or let the whole community know what their experience with certain ads were. And, like you said, it would be at the expense of the advertiser if they bought adspace for 'bs'. One more thing, using Pligg, Admin could post thier own opinions, which would prevent disreputable characters from paying you to advertise their spam.
I use WebOfTrust, and many ads on Facebook and Myspace are in the red with them. I think my idea would be great for generating revenue from a Pligg social network, and could save your members (friends and their friends) the trouble of seeing ads that really don't amount to much, except for the advertiser scamming people.
Thanks to the both of you for feedback.
I'm not all that great at programming, less at development; but I can do some coding.
I don't have the funds to pay anyone to write such a program for me; but if I can get one up and running myself I'll certainly add it here.
Thanks again.
