If you get the stream_get_contents error your server doesn't support a function used by Pligg for installation. See my other comments about the troubleshooter to confirm.

html tags are not being formatted correctly in lang_english.conf When adding li tags in the register text they are displaying as text on the page rather than acting as html tags.

The same is true for the about text box on the sidebar as well.

Also from time to time the text displays in boxes.

Is there a fix for this?

I could use some more details about your server. A few servers seem to display the HTML while most other servers interpret the tags as HTML properly.

Here you go

Apache: 2.2.11 (Unix)
MySQL: 5.1.30
PHP: 5.2.9
OS: Linux

Edit:

Also when a user is sent an email from the system (example: forgot password) the email is coming in as email from:

p???a???s???s???w???o???r???d???@???f???o???o???.? ??c???o???m

Any ideas on this? It seems to be something again with the admin language.

Could you please look into your languages/lang_english.conf file for that line which contains <li> tags and post it here?

Here is one for an example:

PLIGG_Visual_Register_Description_Points = "<li>Submit your own stories</li><li>Vote on stories that interest you</li><li>Join and create interest groups</li><li>Share stories with groups and friends</li><li>Save stories to your personal profile.</li><li>View your voting and comment activity from your profile</li><li>Make and add new friends to your friends list.</li><li>Send private messages to your friends and group members.</li>"

Now if I leave the default text in the language everything shows fine, but once I edit it in the admin and insert my own text that contains any html tags, they are ignored and placed as text on the page and not seen as html tags at all.

The same is true for any of the language edits made via admin that contain html tags.

Thanks for your time and assistance on this.

Unfortunately I can't reproduce that issue on my server. Can you see any changes in the lang_english.conf file after you insert you own text with html tags?

No, nothing at all. That's why this is so odd.

If I edit the language manually on my local machine it looks no different than if I edited it from the admin language page.

Even more odd, if I edit the text and use tags on my pc it too shows the tags as text, Now if I copy & paste from a fresh pligg lang_english to mine and then make edits to the text not the tags, it will work.

Example:
I wanted a <li> tag so I typed them in - uploaded - they show as text.
So I copy and pasted the <li> tag from another lang_english - uploaded - and they work as tags should.
I checked and rechecked AND rechecked there were no errors in the typing, it looked EXACTLY the same.

I've seen a lot of strange things in my time but this has to be the most odd by far. lol

I have managed to get things working how I want by using a fresh lang_english file and making the text edits I wanted - (not changing any tags, just leaving them) then uploading to the server.

The only things I can think of are:
Something to do with cache?
Something to do with the file getting corrupted?
Aliens have taken over my lang_english file?

As I said, it is all good now, I have worked it out the best way I could think of, but I thought I would share this oddness with you..
