Couldn't find this answer anywhere.

I have repeatedly tried extracting a few template files (.tar) that I've uploaded to see what different templates will look like. Every time I get the success message.

Template has been extracted.

The templates do not appear in the list of available templates to set to default but more importantly, in the FTP directory the files are still .tar and no folder exists with the templates files. I've got three folders, that's it. One is yget.

yget
mobile
convergence

These are all available. I don't want to start customization with any of them, at least not until I get to preview some more.

I also have:

03_template.tar
07_template.tar
11_template.tar
pligg-templates_template.tar

I have repeatedly clicked the "Extract this template" link to each of them in the web interface. Each time I get the success message. Each time they are not "seen" as available choice and the FTP (after refresh) still does not show a folder; just the .tar.

Am I doing something wrong? If so I think the interface should be changed to make the user steps more clear.

Is something easy to fix here?

I don't know how to get the files actually extracted so I can play with the different templates before I decide on one.

You must be using a older version pligg which still had the template management module. we since got rid of that cause it never really worked all that right and the developer that started it never finished.
You can just go to admin > configure> template> and type the template name in

Thanks for your reply. I tried that and the only templates that "work" are the ones that I've actually been able to extract. So, only the ones that have folders in the FTP.

I'm using 9.9.5 and just installed it via DreamHost. Although I did enable (install) this template management module. I can stop using it, thanks.

Your answer did help though. Instead of uploading the templates I downloaded them to my local machine (they were still zip or rar files) unstuffed / unzipped / unrar'd them, and I'm slowly uploading the folders now, changing the names as you suggested, and it looks like I'm able to preview them this way.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll probably uninstall the module next.
