How to properly use google analytics?

I just want to add Google Analytics code into the Pligg template, I follow Google's instruction and add it before the </head> tag. Then I clear the template cache to update it. But after that I could not visit my site - it just turn white and nothing display.
What's the problem and where to add Google Analytics code?

What you done before just delete it

Open footer.tpl then

save the file

did you try adding the Google analytics code in the footer template file of your installation?
