Hello,

I have recently developed a web hosting reviews website based on Pligg Beta 9.9.5. I've put a lot of hard work into this site, customizing the script and the graphic interface and adding a lot of new features. In terms of functionality the site doesn't work like Pligg anymore. You can see the site here: www.HostRisk.com.

A few days ago I have been tried to sell a few copies of it, including:
- website files
- database with over 125 hosts with images, but without reviews and without user accounts
- installation service
all of these for a small fee of $19.

The problem is that some peoples accused me that I'm not allowed to sell copies of the Pligg script. So the question is:

I am allowed to distribute my highly customized version of the script, charging a small fee for my hard work?

I'm waiting the reply in this thread from the Pligg admins/developers.

Many thanks for your great script,
Zeegal

better read pligg's license - affero.org: Affero General Public License version 1 (AGPLv1)
since it's a GPL derrivate, I think you are allowed to sell copies of your script as long as you keep the license notice in the source files...

I haven't removed the license file and neither the copyright notice in the source files.
The price is for the extra code/functions written by myself, template, database records and install service, but I have to include the Pligg script in all this package because I can't separate the code (my code is spread through a lot of files). Actually I don't give the customer a downloadable product but I install everything on his server.

Please read the selling thread at DigitalPoint: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1368467
I'd be grateful if any of the Pligg developers would post a comment on that thread to clarify the problem.

Thanks again!

In short, yes you can sell copies of derivatives. I really hate having to use the Affero license that was applied to the original source code that Pligg is based on, I would much rather be using an easier to understand Creative Commons license. I think that the general idea of the Affero license is similar to the GNU license, or at least they claim that it follows a similar structure. From my previous readings of Affero it seems like there is nothing to stop anyone from selling a Pligg-based website.
