    PostFix and Pligg

I am running the latest version of pligg. I don't recieve any notification in email of the registered users when they send messages for each other. The simple message module is used and in their pligg inbox they can see the message; however, they don't recieve any notification in their emails like this

    Hi User,

You've been sent a private message from kourosh.

To see the message, go to your PLIGG inbox here: http://XXX.com/module.php?module=simple_messaging&view=inbox

    Thank you,

I am currently running a smtp relay to google apps in EC2 using postfix. (more http://www.marksanborn.net/linux/send-mail-postfix-through-gmails-smtp-on-a-ubuntu-lts-server/)

There is unfortunately nothing in my mail.log file to track the problem. I would like to know if you have already installed simple message module and have had any success to use it?!

Problem with mail using STMTO authentication

    According to this article,

the stock mail() does not usually allow you to use the SMTP server of your choice, and it does not support SMTP authentication, required by many a mail server today, at all.

I would suggest PLIGG use another package like free "PEAR Mail package".

    Implementation by phpmailer

I did manage to use phpmailer with smtp. just download class.smtp.php for the phpmailer and put it in the libs folder.

Now you can configure the smtp part of phpmailer as you wish; you can find a lot of information by googling that. My configuration was to use port 587 and stmp.gmail.com and tls.

    Wish you luck.

(Pligg has used in different places the functions phpmailer and also mail() function; I am not sure why they have not managed to keep some kind of consistency over the development phase!!)
