I have tried several spam filtering options and i am still getting nailed with spam to a level that is making me let the site die. The site is very unpopular so it should not be getting spam to the degree it is. 30 stories a month.

I have more popular sites working on joomla and wordpress that have great spam filtering. I even installed akismet and it is not doing anything. On my wordpress driven sites it catches 99% of the spam and i can delete the posts with on click.

This is a UX nightmare that needs to be addresses or pligg will continue to limp along... I wish shooting spammers in the head was a viable option but unfortunatly in todays world we have to deal with assholes who dont care if there 1 to 1,000,000 conversion ratio destroys other peoples work and closes down sites but alas there are these types of people in the world.

I love the concept but I can not do anything with Pligg unless I have a backend developer to do spam filtering. I ran a site that recieved 4 million page views a month and i never recieved one spam comment on a coppermine build. So I know it is possible.

Please fix this issue...

sorry 30 stories a week... sometimes more not 30 a month... also the UI for story management requires to many clicks. You should have an option for spam that removes the entire entry from the DB.

Thanks for all the work once you get this sorted out I am sure pligg will be a great CMS... right now I cant recommend it unless there is a devo to rework the site...

Could you list what modules and methods you are currently using to reduce spam? CAPTCHA and Email Verification both turned on I assume? I'm sorry, but 30 spam stories really isn't that much considering how much spam I get through Wordpress a month after having Akismet and other prevention methods turned on. With Wordpress I currently average about 5 spam posts a day from one WP site. What I'm saying is that no single method (or even a combination of multiple methods) will produce a spam-free website. A human touch is required to filter messages at least a few times a week. And it doesn't take a "developer" to manage news articles. With modules that email you on new story submissions it shouldn't be hard to keep up to date on new posts and moderate them as they come in.

There are also several other modules available to help reduce potential spam submissions that have been covered many times on other threads. I think there are something like 10+ modules dedicated to help block spam posts, I will admit some of those probably need updated.

If you have any specific requests for antispam features please let us know.

First line of defense: Spam Trigger - Anti-Spam and Profanity Filter

It is a dictionary based anti-spam solution that will do a range of things based on what words spammers are using. You can set it to just change the status of stories and comments to "moderated" so that they don't appear until admin approval. You can also set it to ban a user and remove their posts when they use certain words.

Hi,

I also have the same pb... Spam Trigger is installed, but when I go in the setup there is a blank screen...

Spam is really really a pain with Pligg... Not seen that with Wordpress or others CMS...

If you have a solution, do not hesitate ;(

Thanks!

I hate when people compare Pligg to Wordpress. Both are completely different platforms.

Pligg is an open social publishing platform. Wordpress is blogging platform.

It also bothers me when people complain about spam. There are many antispam techniques and modules. You can't just use one and be done with it. You should be using all of them.
Here is a new free module that was released over a week ago. As you'll see at the time of this post that only 9 people have downloaded it. I think that is clear evidence that even if we put out tools to fight spam, people are obviously not using them.

ConseilsMarketing I have been using chucks SFS spam mod for a week now. Before I used this I used to get several spam user registrations, 5-10 spam comments and submissions a day. For the past 5-6 days I have received 2 spam submissions and 1 spam comments which were already existing users. Also since I have installed SFS I have received no bogus spam user registrations.

Kudos to chuck on this.
