Hi all, let me say a big thanks to the development team for releasing the new version. I'm excited that this upgrade may cure many of the problems still plaguing my site (http://hhr.lostlaowai.com)

As I've been operating the site for quite a while now, I really don't want to lose the database that has grown over the last few months, nor the large amount of template customization. Is there a way to keep the database, but still upgrade from an older version (early version of beta 7)??

I'm not entirely sure of the revision number, but my version is previous to the introduction of the config2.php file.

Thanks for any help.

Ryan

hello

make a backup of the database. the upgrade.php should just alter your database and not actually delete things from it. (upgrade instructions in readme.txt)

make a new folder with beta 8, and try it out with a test database. transfer your modification to the new one to verify that they work

If you find any problems, or something please let us know and we will try to improve the upgrade code to stop it from happening

Hey Savant, thanks for writing back. I managed to mostly sort it out for myself. The upgrade_lang_conf.php seems to wonk things a bit, as I was told it had already been done, and then I was left with an empty language file.

Now starts the arduous process of copying my template mods into the new template...

Thanks again.

best method would be to keep a list of mods you make sort of a checklist that you can use to make the changes.
