what code do i need to place in story.tpl to have the category of the story show?

Why do you need it to be put in story_center.tpl? The story_center.tpl just grab the contents from link_summary.tpl

because my story page doesnt display what category the video is in for example http://www.theviraltrend.com/Comedy/unicorn-after-wisdom-teeth/ and i would like to have the category displayed right above the title... i already tryed that code and it doesnt work.

Just put the code I posted in link_summary.tpl. What you put in link_summary.tpl will be displayed in story details unless you make a condition not to.
