I downloaded and extracted the latest pligg onto my fedora lamp server. I click install, I select English, I carefully follow the instructions, click next, and then I am back to the language selection screen. This will continue to loop. I've tried it in firefox and chrome. I have an old version of pligg (1.0.3) in a different folder - it installed and runs. Any thoughts on what might be causing the issue are greatly appreciated!

Try changing line 13 in /install/install0.php from:
Code:
    $url = 'http://www.pligg.com/languages/check/getLanguageList.php?version=111';
To:
Code:
    $url = 'http://www.pligg.com/languages/check/getLanguageList.php?version=abc';
That will cause it to fail finding the language files on pligg.com and it should default to the default files stored locally. I'm not sure if that is going to fix the problem, but it's a thought to start with.

I've also seen this happen if the /languages folder does not have the write permissions.

Troubleshooter shows that error when you have yet to install Pligg, so that's normal.

CHMOD 0777 both the /languages directory PLUS all of the files within that directory. During installation installer_lang.php and installer_lang_default.php both need to be set to 0777 to write the latest installer language files to your server.

I've never experienced such a bug as you are reporting, I always see an error message when I try to install without proper CHMOD.

I have never heard of anyone else having this type of problem. Perhaps a file is corrupt, try reuploading everything. If not I dunno what else to suggest.
