Category "Not Required" - I need help...

At iZeby.com - Your Source for Social News and Networking, members are inputting stories - upcoming news - and I want the default category to be "My Website".

However, the category is not required for them to successfully submit. I think it is a function of Pligg to require that a category is selected, so my question is what is wrong with my code?

Thanks.

P.S. - My preference is for the category to default to My Website, and for the members to have to manually change it if their story qualifies for another category.

You might want to check with OxyThemes since they made the template and may have changed some things. Try the default template, Wistie, to see if you can still submit without a category there (also, previous thread appears related- No Category Selected Issue).

If you can't replicate with Wistie, there may be a few reasons. Per this thread- How can I set a default category?, I know you can comment out <option value = "">{#PLIGG_Visual_Submit2_CatInstructSelect#} in your template's submit_step_2.tpl file to make the first category in your category list the default one, but maybe it was removed. Also, check your root directory's submit.php file for the category error check around line 550.

If it still happens with Wistie, you may need to try a new install since that shouldn't happen.

Thanks guys.

As an admin, the category is required. However, I've found in a test that as a normal user - the category drop down does not work. It makes sense why no one is selecting a category, since the drop down selection of categories doesn't work.

What doesn't make sense to me is why it works for me and not everyone else.

I will revert back to my original file for submit_step-2.tpl and see if that fixes the drop down issue. But then I'm back to square one perhaps on why no one selects a category.

Regarding a "new install", can't I just upload the tpl submit* files ?

Regarding a quote earlier that suggested I check with OxyThemes, their support staff sent me to you - believing the category problem to be a Pligg issue.

Anyone have an idea why I as a god level admin have a drop down for category selections on each of my submissions, but all other members have NO dropdown for category selection.

Sounds like it could be a security level setting. PLEASE help!!
