Exclamation Two characters ?> show at the top of pages except login.php

These two characters ?> are being displayed at the the top left of all pages except for login.php - can you possibly help diagnose the problem before I scour each original template file with those we've modified. We're using the original Arthemia template and recently modified the following files:

    header.tpl
    register_center.tpl
    user_center.tpl
    login_center.tpl

I'm pretty sure I need to go through each file with a fine toothcomb, but I just wanted to see if anything jumped out at you immediately given the above explanation and the fact the ?> is not being shown on the login page.

Another thing to note is some of the text on the pages listed is now showing larger than usual (yet not on the login page)... so I'm assuming a <div> / </div> tag as been removed somewhere.

This error showed up as a result of editing the date format in libs/user.php - this has now been returned to its original format and the problem is resolved.

Just so that others know, "?>" represents the ending of PHP code. PHP is opened by either "<?php" or the shortcode "<?".
