Smile Simple Scripts Pligg Installation Problem?

    Hi guys,

Sorry if this is a silly newbie question, but I've just installed pligg through simple scripts and the website was running without problems.

I then made a change to the number of votes a story needs to get published on the front page and now the website is completely broken. It now looks like this: wtf.com.my - Your Source for Social News and Networking

I have no idea what I did wrong, I have since deleted and reinstalled pligg twice and had the same problem come up.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or alternatively can a kind soul please point me in the direction of a good guide for a proper pligg install? (I did a search and read that simple scripts can cause permission problems, but I couldn't find an updated installation guide for the latest version of pligg).

Thank you all for your help and advice, much appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Mitchell

I've tried to install Pligg via Simple Scripts several times since yesterday and it doesn't install. I also had tech at BlueHost try several installs via Simple Scripts and it just doesn't install. The installation notice indicates that Pligg installed properly, but it seems the code is corrupted and there's nothing on the site aside from the words "Could not open ./../languages/lang_english.conf" Does anyone have a solution what to do and/or know of this problem since 6/14/2012? Thanks!

Looks like we're having the same problem. My website is on bluehost as well, hopefully someone can shed some light on what's going on here..

i'll recommend you to install pligg explicitly..don't use simple scripts..

there is good enough installation readme and troubleshoot facility provided by pligg..just follow each and every step, and i'm li'll bit sure this will fix the thing..

Have you renamed lang_english.conf.default to lang_english.conf?

You need to rename 3 files, just follow the instruction and make sure you have renamed the files before you continue.

The automated installations tend to not get CHMOD permissions correct. I suggest manual installations if you are able to lookup your database information for use with the Pligg installer.

Thanks for the advice and input, everyone. I'm going to attempt a manual install now.

Where can I find installation instructions for the newest version of pligg? The instructions I found on google are mostly for the older versions (not sure if there's a difference, but would rather be on the safe side).

    Thanks again!

^ In the Pligg download there's a file called readme.html, that's where you can find the installation instructions.

A similar thing happened to me. I simply changed the setting in the Configure>Story so that articles would open in a new window. And when I did that the site broke.

I used QuickInstall from HostGator to install 1.2.2, but I went through and checked all the permissions. Some were wrong (especially the language files) and some of the files were not renamed properly but I changed everything and it still didn't work.

I'm going to do what you suggest and manually install. I let you know ASAP if it works.
