How do I remove the email requirement for registration?

I want to completely remove the email requirements for registration, or even remove it from the registration page altogether.

It's self explanatory to remove the email from the registration page, but how would I be able to get rid of the mail requirement for registration on my pligg website?

It's not something you can just turn off. The email address is used in several places. For example checking for duplicate registrations, checking against lists of known spanners. killspamming, comment notifications, status updates, etc. You would most likely have to modify the core files heavily, and a couple modules, which take some time. So I would suggest hiring someone.

Another big issue is that you couldn't recover a forgotten password without getting a user to input their email address.

It is probably more complicated than this, but I think that if you removed all references to email in register.php and disabled user email validation from the Admin > Config area then that might do what you want.
