Pligg Template Contest

I was thinking that a template contest for Pligg templates would be a great idea to bring out some nice templates for Pligg and if the prizes are big enough, awareness about Pligg and the Pligg community will grow. But we have to make sure that the prizes are substantial to bring attention. Maybe try and find some sponsors like the people who advertise on Pligg.com. I will also be willing to add some money to the prize money.

• How much prize money would get you interested in a template contest?
• Should advertising on Pligg.com be a part of the prizes?
• Would you be willing to sponsor or donate some money to the prize? (This is open source you know?)

Not to shoot down your idea because I think it's a great one, but I believe Yank tried this before (before May) and it didn't work that well. Maybe it's time to try it again and see what happens. Pligg has grown a lot since then and we may have a lot more people willing to participate.

Actually, the old template contest is how I found Pligg. I saw the prize, and I saw the effort I needed to put in and I decided that it was not worth it.

This time around, increase the prize amount and I think there will be a good response.

quick question though, do the templates designed and submitted become automatic property of pligg for distribution with the next pligg release, or do the submitters have the right to sell them on afterwards?

i think if i was going to do it i would place designs 1st 2nd and 3rd place, and have those designs take home the prizes and then there templates get rolled into the next pligg release. Meaning whoever gets placed gets there design on pligg for everyone to use for free. However, the prizes for 2nd and 3rd have to also be good enough for a submitter to be able to release there design gratis.

As for everyone else who enters but doesnt win, maybe they can give away there templates at a marked down price? Maybe ~$100 for using the design?

Maybe write up a few ideas about the prize scheme/possible rules and vote on it?? I'm not sure how you guys are going to do it but thats my 2 cents.
