Sites taking too long to load

Hi Guys, I am noticing that with many of the pligg sites, a white screen will appear for about 5-10 seconds prior to loading the site. This is not a good thing considering that 10 seconds is way too long to get someones attention span going. WHats up with the extended loading time?

Even I experience slowness as compared to other sites.

Startupbug loaded in max of 4 seconds for me. After the initial page load everything else seems to load instantly.
