I just addded a couple of custom language variables to the bottom of libs/lang.conf and when i reloaded my site all of the language changes that i had made through the admin panel have reverted back to their defaults. I only added a few lines at the bottom of the file - i did not alter anything else. When i erase the lines i added the language variables on my site remain at the default.

It looks like i have no idea how lang.conf and the admin panel work together.

When i make a change in the admin panel is it modifying lang.conf?

Is there any way for me to get back the changes i made through the admin panel?

Is there any way in the future to back up the language changes i make in the admin panel?

Are we able to add custom language variables to lang.conf

Can you go through the steps of how this happened? We add entries to lang.conf all the time and nothing like this ever happens. Are you sure you didn't upload the default file?

lang.conf stores all the words on a Pligg site. If you change something in modify language it changes it in lang.conf and your site will continually grab the words from lang.conf. Adding a few lines shouldn't make everything revert to their defaults unless you accidentally uploaded the default lang.conf file

I think you're right ... i must have accidently uploaded the default file.

While it's going to be a pain in the ass redoing all the language changes because of the mistake at least my site isn't live yet and the way i thought that lang.conf and the admin worked is correct.

thanks.

This is a good example of why its important to always keep a site wide backup.
