I am just about to change the names on some of the fields in the user profile because i'd like to make the profiles more geared towards the content of my site. It should be an easy switch but it made me think that it would be a good to have a handful of custom profile fields in Pligg. They could be set up exactly like the extra fields in the submit form.

In the meantime ... is there any harm in customizing the existing profile fields like skype, google and yahoo? Are there any plans in future releases to use the data in these fields in specific ways that would mess things up if they were customized?

You can just change the names of the fields in the lang.conf file.

I'm working on a feature like "extrafields" for the profile right now, and it should be included in the next release, so if I were you, I'd wait for that.
