hi guys

i have tried many times to install beta 9.0 but seems it does not support chinese posting very well -- some chinese characters are displayed as "??". but i tried to post the same characters on pligg9 demo here, it is fine!

just wonder what collation is supposed to be used in order to support chinese (simplified)? I have tried gbk_chinese_ci, utf8_bin, utf8_general_ci, utf8_unicode_ci, neither worked.

my database is:

# Server version: 4.1.12a-nt
# Protocol version: 10
# Server: localhost via TCP/IP
# User: root@localhost
# MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)
# MySQL connection collation: utf8_unicode_ci

any comments is appreciated! :-)

hi

i noticed that the line below in libs/db.php is commented out:

//$db->query("SET NAMES 'utf8'");

if i remove the "//" and create the database by setting collation as "utf8_general_ci", the chinese postings look fine now :-)

did I do the right thing? hehe ;-)
