RSS importer - display images and remove <br />

I may have missed something but I just can't figure out how to preserve some htlm in RSS imported stories, such as <img> or <a>. And I would be so gratefull if I could be taught how to remove <br />'s in some feeds that have sometimes 2 or 3 <br /><br /><br /> left in the code that leave big white spaces in the text as you can see in that example.

Please, why did no one reply to that one? I'm really stuck with that. Tried to go through the code but I'm too bad with PHP, I couldn't find any solution in order to remove the <br /> tags in displayed stories.

you need to add the html tags to the allowed html tags in admin > config > submit > html tags to allow

It works fine for tags I want to keep like <a> or <img>, but I'm still having problems with <br /> that I'd like to remove. Some feeds have many instances of them even though <br> is not allowed in the tag list.
It's not a problem when there is only one <br /> but with 3 or even 4 of them, displayed articles look ugly. Is there any way to remove them?
