Pligg has grown more powerful and better than any other alternative voting system. FYI Pligg is now a complete CMS.

If you are looking for a simple, clean and easy to use system, then I would recommend PHPDug.
Drupal is also far superior to any other CMS out there but not as simplistic as PHPDug

Sorry to say but Pligg cannot handle the 284000+ links and many more tags in my database anymore. Pligg is terribly slow even with only a few hundred links. The front page takes some 45 sec to load and I'm sitting just a few hundred km away from my dedicated server which is hosted by a premier European provider.

Does anyone have experience with the Drupal>Zen solution? Looks shaky to me as well...

Phpdugg has done pretty well for me, but there are a lot of concerns with spam. My site has around 22,000 link in it, but probably 95% of those were submitted by bots. PHPdugg is also very very limited, so if you're looking for a simple solution, it may be ok. It runs very fast, it's just the spam thing that get's to me.

I fully agree with you!!

However, what is Pligg doing about SUBSTANTIALLY increasing speed?? I had to turn to Dugg since Pligg is unable to handle my 516000+ stories at Bio-Network.org. I get some 1000+ story submissions per day and it takes me some 1.5 h per day to delete the crap and block notorious spammers via .htaccess. I want to move my other sites (TropHort.com, Pomology.org and Olericulture.org) to new software (social media is basically just a replacement for web directories if someone asks me) but the speed issue in Pligg is reason enough not to choose this one. I think there should be a commercial version of Pligg, started new from scratch.
