Well, this is the new version on my site currently: book-bee.com

I'm having the darndest time figuring out how to make that whole header area teal. The only way I've found to change it is to change the back ground color of the page.

I'm also trying to figure out how to add a background image to the vote box.

And where to change the colors for the menu bars on teh left and the right.

Just in case you're wondering:
I got the colors for the vote boxes in the css/votebox.css
I got rid of the borders in the templates/skidoo-too/css/skidoo-too.css by setting them the columncontainer borders to 0.
I changed the header and the footer image in the .css file above

Ok, figured out the navigation bar colors. It's in the main css file near the bottom.

Book-Bee,

Your site www.book-bee.com looks good in FireFox but not IE. The header is only half visible in IE. Just an FYI.

You're making a great effort though. Thank you very much for sharing your tips. Please continue to help! We need it!!

Few more issues. Went ahead and looked into the IE. What's causing the navigation to drop so low on the page? Does it do that on the demo? I don't think I changed anything that would cause that.

Looking into how to style the center blocks. Want to get rid of the borders and perhaps ad some style to the article name.

And I would LOVE style ideas. I absolutely hate this design. But I'm frustrated and my creative juices die when I'm frustrated.

I'm frustrated too. I am really struggling with what files to deal with in order to alter the design. For example there are several different files that all seem to interact with each other, but I'm struggling to figure out how.

These files include .html, .css, .js, .tpl, .php.

I cannot figure out what the .tpl files are all about. Are these the 'smarty' files? As for smarty, do I need to install a smarty editor to manipulate these files? As for the .php files, do I need to modify them when I alter the .html, .css, and .js files? If so, why?

I just don't get the relationships between the different file types, and this has managed to quash my creative ability.

Arrrggg.

Join the club. As for me, I've just been editting the files in the new template directory. What's it called? Skidoo-Too. Trying to figure out now how to get my header to work in IE. And still haven't looked into the navigation. That's just weird.

So I looked at the demo that Ash has and it does the same thing on IE with the menus being halfway down the page. Except her header is normal, but it's about the same height as mine is showing up as. So i'm guessing that there is something I need to adjust....

Any ideas on the side bars? Anyone?

Heyhey,
The .tpl files are the template files, aka the layout files. It only includes the html & design, so that's where you need to alter the code when you want to alter the layout. There are also smarty codes in those .tpl files, well... what they do is... they get the information from the .php files and includes them into the .tpl files... So the php files, you don't need to touch them, because that's the "real scripting/code". No, you don't need any editor, notepad is fine.
