    Pinning a Feature Headline

    I am trying to create a site that uses Pligg but is something of a hybrid between dynamic and static content. I would love the ability to "pin" or "stick" a manually selected headline so that it always appears at the top of the home page (until it is unstuck).

    I'd like that featured headline to somehow stand out from those below, such as using a different CSS style.

    Even a simple checkbox on the submit and edit pages, only visible to admins, would be terrific -- but I don't know enough to hack something myself.

    Any takers on how this could be done? Can it be accomplished by editing existing files, or would it require an add-on module?

    Thanks!

    I'll have a really basic module for you within the next day or two, with a more advanced version being included with v1.0.

    Attached is a basic version of this module. You'll need to edit the file '/templates/featured_story_index.tpl' to change the story that is shown once the module is enabled.

    FYI, I noticed that if a story is voted in the star method, you can not see the story number when you hover over it. Make sure that you use an account or IP address that has not already voted.

    Works like a charm -- thanks again! I just did some minor template adjustments to add a second horizontal rule and give it a gray background color, to help the featured item stand out a bit from the headlines below it:

    http://www.scifistream.com/

    It would be awesome to see this fully integrated with a Web interface in a future Pligg release, especially if admins can see a checkbox on Submit and Edit pages to select the story that is featured.

    It might also be nice to have slots for Featured #2, Featured #3, Featured #4, Featured #5, etc., which could be set to a different style. That way I could set up the lead feature like this, then have a handful of 1-line, small-text headlines below it before the user-voted headlines begin.

    Woo!

    I installed the featured story module and it works like a charm!~

    I'm using it to display a welcome message and some brief instructions. I like that it only shows on the "published" page, but I would love if it would 'disappear' once a user logs in!

    I've tried adding the following to the module

    {if $pagename eq "published"}
    {if $user_authenticated ne true}

    MESSAGE HERE
    {else}

    {/if}
    {/if}

    It shows on the front page when logged in or not.

    Please help!

    Remove {else} tag and it works!

    Message will only show on front page and when not logged in!!!

    Thanks for a great module!

    To tweak how your feature looks you'll have to use css tags from your template. Either recreate a look that already exists on another part of your template, or create a new set of instructions.

    I know it's vague, but that's all I got without a full-on tutorial.
