I just wanted to ensure that I understand the functionality of the Bury Story option.

I thought that 'bury story' does 2 things -

1) grays the story out for the current user
2) acts like a negative vote. eg. If the story has 5 votes, and a user buries it, then it will have 4 votes.

However, it appears that all the 'bury story' option does is 'gray' it out for the logged in user and add another vote to the total story votes. So how would we be able to keep SPAM out of the system; we would have to manually discard stories?

I use the voting method 2 (5 star rating) on my site...

Thx
-A

OK, found some more info. It appears that the 'Bury story' feature ->

1) grays the story out for the current user
2) Adds a vote to the story
3) When the number of reports is greater than three times the number of votes the story will be discarded (Using default formula)

Is this correct?

Thx

It technically does add a vote to the story but it doesn't increase the vote count. It uses a certain value to indicate that it was a bury vote and not a regular vote. The 5 star rating method probably needs tweaked a bit but it shouldn't effect any of the ratings of the articles even though it says that the the number of votes has increased (be it a bury or regular vote)

Can someone explain how and where to modify the bury formula?

It seems to me that buries should affect the number of votes required for a story to be published. For example if the threshold is 10 then if a story gets 5 buries it should need 15 votes to make it to the home page.

I too would like to know where to begin to try and mod the bury feature. Ideally, for me, it would simply decrease the total number of votes by one. Anyone? I will post anything I figure out if anyone else is interested in this mod.

I dont seem to have the bury function at all... I have pligg b9.7. Is there a way to activate it, or I can only get it if I update to the latest SVN?

you don't get the bury option if you voted for or submitted the story I think.

The url below looks like it describes how it pretty much work, which is similar to digg

http://forums.pligg.com/bug-report/8...t-working.html

***
DIGG Bury
As a Digg user, your help is appreciated in reporting duplicate stories (not allowed), dead links, incorrect stories, oldness, lameness, and spam by clicking the corresponding link in the “problem” drop-down list below each story description. When a story gets enough reports, or “buries,” it disappears from the Digg queue and only appears in search results and user profiles.

PS: I was also just looking at a post that describes the default formula workings...which was something like if it gets 3 times the amount of buries as it has votes or somethign like that...but now i can't seem to find it back...am i seeing things?
