Currently on Pligg beta 9.5, when a user registers, the users email address is not checked if it is valid or not.

I have noticed users registering with fake emails, sometimes with emails like asfdd@dfsd.com !!

We need a way to mail the newly registered user an activation link, so that they can confirm their email is valid.

Currently members are just making many users names within seconds and voting their stories till they reach frontpage (

To avoid this we have to make sure their email is valid, just like Digg does.

Does anyone know how to do it? This is a very important thing that Pligg sites need to do to avoid users from gaming by creating multiple usernames easily and voting for their own stories.

I would also like a checkbox for "I agree to the Terms and Conditions for using this site." on the registration form, and the registration should not continue unless users tick the checkbox.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There was code on the forum to let users register via email on the forum. Search for threads written by dollars5 and you'll find it.

I believe most Pliggers could benefit from this feature of login verification being implemented into the Pligg code. Pligg does a great job of reducing SPAM in stories through a democratic voting process, but for some odd reason, does not have the the ability to do this for the login process. Could this possibly be added to the base code and be added an admin option or could someone create a module for this?

Just my 2 cents...

Thx Ash. I know about the "mod". I was wondering if this could be integrated into the base code. The "mod" involves replacing certain files which I have already customized.

Anyways, thx for the link and your contributions to Pligg. They are truly appreciated...

Ash, I now have an even better version of the e-mail validation and captcha module - will post it for you in dev notes - if you are to integrate it for pligg 1.0- that would really be good.

The new version has the following:
1] better captcha logic
2] e-mail with priority that it goes to inbox
3] ability to replace fonts for the captcha (currently uses free-for-commercial-use fonts which are re-distributable)
4] Whole registration process in 1-step
5] Validation message for user to know his account is validated on clicking the link
6] minor bugs fixed with the old code
7] All updated to the latest 9.5 code (didnt manage to update to SVN version - will try if possible)

(I will be able to post it only tomorrow while at office as I have no access to the code atp)

Hey AshDigg (and everyone else too ),

Another feature that I strongly suggest we make available in Pligg v1.0, during the user registration step is the ability to invite multiple friends, by extracting their addresses from their address book, based on the registering email address of the user.

Any website that uses this tool will grow exponentially when friends invite multiple friends in their address book.

See an example of an importer script in action here: http://xs208.xs.to/xs208/06453/registration.JPG

Link to free gmail contact importer:

[Probably all the same thing, but I didn't want to inadvertently leave anything out]

More free code will be available soon. I'm currently working on RediffMail, IndiaTimes (Rediff Mail and India Times address book scripts are now available upon request, soon you'll be able to download them here as well) and Lycos mail address book/contacts importer scripts and I will release them for free (Lycosmail address book script is almost ready). If you know of any popular online mailing service in your country please let me know and I can work on that too. I'm currently concentrating on more scripts that will be not commercial. For example you can now download my gmail address book script.

Long live Pligg!

I might have hit the motherload. Here is a link to, I beleive, free scripts for 'Yahoo', 'Hotmail' and 'Gmail' addressbook imports. The idea would be to send invites to friends after import. Since we do not have addressbooks yet, I am assuming that we would just do temp import to the server, email the invites out to friends and delete the email list after..

Cent does this look like another module you could develop, similar to your welcome email module?

Vive la Pligg!
