I´ve googled a little bit and found out that it´s the BOM (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_Order_Mark) of UTF-8 that causes the problem. PHP systems prior v6 in standard setting send it as characters to the browser and those who aren´t set to UTF-8 display these characters as ISO-8859-1/-15 " ".

Due to my problem mentioned above I used PSPad to recode the story_center.tpl to ISO-8859-2 (ISO-8859-1 wasn´t available and the Latin-x substandards are all the same for german special characters).

notepad is actually brilliant! all u have to do is save as, and choose UTF8 for instance... so what did the host do to solve the issue?
