I've seen this a thread started about this a bit ago but doesn't look like it got any traction. So here it is...

My Pligg site requires integratioon of Wordpress (along with VBulletin), which means a global registration system and ability to parse information between the systems. I know that this can be done relatively easy using RSS, so thats probably not the tricky part. Also, I am suggesting using WP because I personally feel its a rock solid blogging platform, but if you can convince me that theres another solution that would work just as well and be less of a hassel to integrate, I'm all ears.

I was thinking about starting a donation fund for this and asking the forum to participate, but I don't know how well that works and I want any prosepective developers to know that I am serious about this project. However if the dev/forum want this enough to chip in (and not take forever doing so), then we can go that route and make this part of the community. Trust me, I'd rather do the later option as it both benefits Pligg and my wallet!

I'm posting here before I 'outsource' to other means because I'd prefer to work with someone here who has knowledge of the Pligg architecture and wants to do something cool with it.

If you're up to the task, PM your info and estimate. I only want to discuss the full details of this project offline.

Please, serious interests only.

Wow, can't believe only one read of this post - guess there isn't as much of a need for this as I thought

I'm sure between DP, SP, GAF and Scriptlance I'll find someone...

I would be very interested in seeing this developed.

I can't contribute any coding, but I would definitely contribute to a fund for development.

Alas, it seems like the forum is loosing traction all over the place...

I would help but I don't know how the WP or vBulletin registration/login system works and I don't really have the time to learn.

Hearing from you guys is a sanity check that this idea doesn't suck at least!

So here's the latest - i've already received a few offers to make this happen - i'm going to wait another day or two and see how many more people respond and the suggestions they offer to accomplish this. If you guys are interested, i'll post the top two or three ideas i get back and maybe we can choose which one sounds best? for example, one idea was to use a script that when a user logs in, it checks them and will activate all the session variables in both Pligg and WP so they will be logged into both. Apparently this developer has done this sort of thing before with independent database systems.

Anyways, depending on the person/option i choose its looking like between $200-300 and about 7-14 days to complete.

P1mpPanther - I would be interested in contributing funds to this project. A couple questions 1) Which would be the master login for the combined products? (i.,e. would you simply hide the WP login and only expose the Pligg login throughout the header pages as not to confuse users) 2) Each product has a registration process - have you thought about combining them? (One way to solve this would be to iuse Pligg registration and nclude a field for blog name issuing one to every user that registers on the site) 3)Which profile page would you use (I think an easy solution to this would be to use the Pligg profile and add a new file for the name and a link to the WP blog). Let me know - I am ready to go on this.

I've been getting responses from some programmers who are interested in the project and confident that they can accomplish it. Right now I'm just filtering through the offers and trying to find the right person as well as the best method to make this happen.

To get to the question about logins, I was thinking about having Pligg as the master login. Where and how this was accessed would probably be left up to the design of your site, but for my taste - I'm with you about having a fixed header nav which stayed the same regardless of if you were in Pligg or WP.

Also, this is going to be using the Multi User (MU) version of WordPress so every member has a full featured blog (or as full featured as an admin wants to give!).

Finally an update on my developer search, I've got about a dozen offers ranging from around 200 to 500 dollars and the avg time to complete is 7-10 days. Of these, there are two or three that seem like good prospects. I'm planning on leaving the job post up for a few more days at least to see if it attracts any more people this weekend.

If you guys are serious about contributing to this, we can discuss the options to develop this together. Even if no-one wants to contribute but you want to give your feedback on what seems best, that's cool too.

Sounds like we're on the same page. Issuing all the users a blog by default is a good solution. Also, the issued blog should be included on the user's Pligg profile page. In addition:

-there should be a way for the user to edit their about.html page from their Pligg profile
-you will need a place to have a post button for the blog. My thought is when a user logs in, they are in the Pligg news section and clicking post in that section applies to Pligg. When clicking on 'Blog' in the header (or wherever you place the button) the user goes to the blog home where the latest blogs posts are from the entire community (does word press have this? ) Using the post button in this section will now post to the blog.

I am also very interested in this. I would be more than willing to chip in $/£ to make this happen. Send me a pm and we can discuss this further.

Cheers,

I'm not a programmer, but I've written a lot of requirement documents and conducted usability tests. I would be happy to comment on your requirements, and initial information designs before you hand it off to a programmer (If timing is right, and I'm not on the road) and be an alpha tester as you get closer to sign-off.
