Note: I've been running a community site for 3.5 years. After trying everything to monetize my site, I conclude that posting deals on my site works best for us. We make more money than using Google AdSense and my members love it. Anyway, here you go:

Important: if most of your members live outside of the USA, don't install this mod, because most deals are for USA residents only.

MOD Title: monetize your pligg site with deals

MOD Description: This simple MOD let you display hot deals in your pligg site and make money. It's a user friendly way to monetize your website. The DealTouch widget works similarly to Google AdSense, except that it displays deals instead of ads. Deals will show up automatically and be updated constantly.

Easy to install. Copy 1 file and edit 2 files.

wow, the idea to advertise deals makes a lot more sense. i have a few questions about these deals though . . .

#1 what is the amount paid by click-through with this as compared with AdSense

#2 AdSense actively monitors the content of your pages and places ads marketing at the audience who would likely be reading that page . . . as far as you know, does this widget do anything like this?

thanks for the post. i'm excited to hear about this mod and for your answers.

The deals come from dealtouch.com - I mostly think they pay a commission if the user goes ahead and makes a purchase.

#2 - not sure - whether it is contextual or not

#1 You get paid only when someone clicks through and buys something, and the commission ranges from couple of cents to $100 dollars depending on the deal. On my own site, the click through rate is about 30-50 times higher than AdSense and the earning from deals is about 5 times of that from AdSense. People actually talk about some of the deals. You almost will never see that happen to AdSense ads.

#2 This widget is not contextual and you can use it together with AdSense.

Thanks a lot for your kind words and sorry for the late reply

Well, if the earnings are 5x greater than AdSense regardless of whether the deals promoted are contextual or not then this sounds like a great idea and I'm happy you brought it up because I didn't know this existed.

Hope they do make this widget contextual in the future because that will only increase click-through rates and earnings.

I'm going to add this to my site (hasn't even launched Beta yet) and see what happens.

DealTouch Client Center :: Introduction - this page tells they are still in beta and not open for public - not sure - unless the author comes to reply.
