I am thinking of upgrading my site to 9.8.2 and making some modifications. If the next version is going to be out soon I would rather wait before I put in all that work. Any idea about a timeline for the next release?

I have upgraded to 9.8.2. I do hope that the next version will NOT be significantly different and I would able to use the same template files.
I also hope that you will include a changelog file so that people who do not want to upgrade may see the changes and fix any potential bugs.

There will be significant changes in the next version, and you will not be able to use older templates unless you update them yourself. There is a change-log always available here. SourceForge.net Repository - [pligg] Log of /branches/9.x
The changes were a necessary step. Mostly separating php out of the templates.

Thanks for the info chuck - do you think I should go ahead and update it based on the latest version in SVN or wait for the stable release?

What about templates purchased from the Pligg Proshop? I assume those will be supported in the next version?

The templates will be updated to match the next versions up to the 1.0 series.

Wait for the release. The SVN is not production quality. Although you can follow it as a guide to see what you will need to change in the future.
