I have a problem. When I click on link, counter work good (2 clicks), but, if i refresh the page, counter is reset (1 click), why?

Could someone help me out? I installed this and works fine with 1.0.3 - i'd like to modify it a little:

- if the count reaches 5 for example:
- the link gets a vote
- the count goes back to 0

I know it can't be that hard, but I can't figure it out where to put and which vote function. Any ideas?
