2006-01-08 Update

The Smarty conversion is complete. We've installed the new code into www.Pligg.com and we're doing some testing, so if you can stop by and give it a test we'd appreciate it.

What's changed:
- Smarty (of course) templates.
- All links should now be prettyfied. You shouldn't see file.php anymore, it should all look similar to the /story/24/ method. Please let me know if you see anything I've missed. (currently "logout" still uses the old method). You will be able to choose between this method and the original method via config for those that have trouble with htaccess.
- ALL text should now be in the lang.conf file for the templates, and in the options.php file for things that were not worth moving. Editing those two files should make it easy to translate to another language or just change a few things.
- There will be a web interface for editing the two files mentioned above.

I'd like to test for another 2-3 days before we release the code. Thanks!

I'm really suprised how fast you converted to Smarty considering the amount of work required to do so. Thanks a lot as usual Ash.

That was quick!

I played around with the base site and didn't run into any bugs. Where do you access anything to use Smarty to change templates and whatnot? Is that going to be in the admin panel when it's done?

So what is the status on you guys getting a Sourceforge project set up for Pligg? I thought I read somewhere that you applies. Anyways, keep up the good work.

Looks good. How do we upgrade from the older version though? Just replace all the files and tweak lang.conf?

I setup a sourceforge page, but I haven't figured out how to add files. They make it impossibly difficult and I got frustrated after an hour of searching through their faq's and trying different methods. I think that the forums will work well enough for now, if anyone has experience with admining a SF project let me know so I can get some help. I'd rather spend my time improving pligg than figuring out how to post it on SF.

I noticed that the link to the stories on pligg.com are still using story.php?id=## format. Should that be (or is it already) changed to the /story/##/ format?

Also, are there plans to have URLs like /story/story_title_text in the future? Rather than an ID number?

Thanks for all the work you guys have done on this. Good to see how far it's come.

There is the option of choosing the story.php?id=## or the /story/##/ in the config.php file. Pligg.com is really just a test site, so we test one way, then switch and test the other.

Thanks for clearing that up. Are the /story/story_title_here type of URLs planned for the (near) future? It would be nice and a bit more clear than ID #s, in my opinion. I don't know how much work it would take, though
