I have looked thru a bunch of Pligg sites and have noticed that there's not a lot of votes by story, even on the older sites (1 or 2 excluded). A couple are really well designed. My question to the core players would be this. What do you think you could add to Pligg to give visitors the desire to return on a daily basis? Do you believe the Digg like format has been played out with surfers?
Content has a ton to do with it, I'm sure, but there has to be something that will give a site a tad more staying power.
I will be trying to rework the profiles and making it more 'sociable', opening up my site, and seeing if that works. Most all of my former vbulletin members have moved to another board and the few that I have let take a peek at the new design haven't done too much with it.
I may be totally off the mark if the intent of this style site is just for people to casually drop in on occasion, then leave.

more advanced profiles! A better system for adding friends and allow members to even drop messages or rate other members profiles! Anything that involves interaction with other members |

I have got a lot of interest in my site and users have been doing a lot of the submitting however they don't stay around much to vote or comment on other posts. Like what bbrian017 said if you give users a way to interact they will stick around a little longer. I am trying to work some stuff into my site and hopefully accomplish this. Good topic. Bryan

Yep. Like the SMF or VB profiles. It looks like you can do it with Pligg as far as users being able to leave messages (paid hack, contact dollars5) and the rest could be easilly coded in. I had a guy contact me today from Clear Channel Communications about doing a partnership with the Chargers radio. He really liked my old vb site. What I'd really like to use would be a combo Pligg/VB demo to really showcase Pligg, but I'm not sure the bridge is good enough to work. That'd be another thing I'd like to see to help Pligg and each site grow. I think vb has grown so much because it is quality at the core. People pay for good software. I'd rather plunk down 150 bucks for Pligg if I know it's solid and bug free but then there is a bunch of other add ons that you can add for free. I'm not sure many average Joe's like paying for add on's while the core product has bugs. That may be the most basic problem. Beta software and not a lot of people willing to try it, therefore not a lot of people to mod it. Not a lot of people modding it means less features for Pligg site owners, which transends into less traffic. Am I off the mark? |

Exactly like that catchpen... nice example! But of course it would have the pligg feel to it! Seems profiles is a place where a lot of people would like to see some advancement! To be honest I would prefer something like this, bbrian017's Profile // Bloggers // BlogCatalog That would be so sweet! |

Profiles certainly would help...But I think to be really successful it takes a massive effort. I'm ramping up for a significant advertising campaign...and have been working with editors, etc. Its a lot of fricking work! David.
