Make Gravatar optional instead of a set feature

From time to time I've been going over the pligg code & know that you guys who are coding it are trying to do what you feel is good for the community.

But as a webmaster I'd really like to suggest to have this Gravatar as an option not a feature. I'm personally not familar with the stability of the services but I do know the pligg site I'm testing runs a lot quicker without going to a third party service. I'd love users to be able to just upload their own icons from their computer.
Another thing is many webmasters will use & make their own language versions of the software.

It might be my personal opinion but please don't make the software dependant on a third party service for something as simple as user icons. It would be great as an option but don't make the first & only option.

Gravatars have always been optional via config.php. Starting with the next release, they will be off by default.

Thanks for the reply
I know the gravatar option can be tyurned off but it doesn't leave any other way for users to have their own icon. That was my point.
I haven't even put up a Pligg site yet but have been testing with it from time to time. You guys are progressing.

Olney,

Your talking about Avatars. As far as I understand it the Avatar software required to make this work is built into Pligg, but for some reason has never been acitivated. I too would like this feature. I'm sure someday our dream will come true .
