SEO: Story title in URL

For better placing in search engines, would it not be a good idea to have the title of a story in the URL of that story?

For example, on Pligg there is a story called "www.google.com = 1089057640"". The URL of that story is http://pligg.com/story.php?id=178.

I think it is a better idea to create a page that is reachable by a URL similar to this:
http://pligg.com/www.google.com_=_1089057640/ or something similar. Of crouse there should be something to replace illegal URL characters into something else (in the example above that is underscores).

Just an idea... what do others think?

Arno

haha, I am just throwing it on the forum here for others to think about it as well, I don't mean to overload you with even more feature requests :-) But, good luck with your todo list

I would like to see it organized by date. It would make the article url much longer and complicated, but google likes numbers and it would also help show when the article was first published. I was thinking:
http://www.pligg.com/story/2006/02/0...le_title_here/
But I do agree that it would be nice to have shorter urls, so I think that this would be okay too:
www.pligg.com/story/article_title_here/

Yankidank please reconsider adding the date information to the urls. Google does not in fact like numbers or long urls. In a recent interview, Matt Cutts of Google recommends, "I wouldn't bother with year/month/day in blog urls; I'd just use the first few words from the title of the post in the url." Hmm. I read otherwise several months back on a forum that somehow numbers in the url made it better for google. Thanks for the article link. I must agree then that just having the domain.com/story/article_title is the best method.

Also, please consider using '-' to instead of '_' in the url. Because google thinks 'keyword1_keyword2' is a single word 'keyword1keyword2', only using '-' between the keywords, google will think they are two words. 'keyword1-keyword2'

see google's url: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/...-briefing.html
