It's been avalible for a while. enable html <img> tags. search the forums.

I was thinking more of image uploads, so the pligg page won't have to rely on third party servers to load the page (making the page load much slower).

Can this be added in a future version? So a logged in user can upload an image with their story and the uploaded file would be saved and stored?

Yep, good thing, maybe as an 'option'.. why not.
And too spare some bandwidth and space, I'd suggest the following:
When the story includes an image:
-if it gets to the frontpage, the image won't be deleted.
-if it doesn't get to the frontpage, the image will be deleted after 2 weeks (beginning from the date when the story was submitted).
And maybe some option to set the max height & width.

I think this would be a good admin selectable option. If you've got the bandwidth and space, it might be nice to host the images for extended periods of time.
