I have been designing a Pligg 8 Template in Photoshop (see pics here: http://www.storylinker.com/media/2-0a/) and have some new ideas I'd like to share for Pligg 8.
1. Anonymous Commenting. If we attach a captcha validation box (like digg just did) to the commenting text box, it might be a good idea to allow anonymous commenting. Think "Wordpress" or other blogs that allow this. I think this would encourage commenting and the captcha validation box would discourage spammers. These "anonymous" commenter’s would not be allowed to vote, and would not receive a rating, but could be modded down (comments would disapear) by registered users. Furthermore they would have an incentive to visit the site often, and become a registered user.
2. User rating. 1-5 stars, just like Netflix. When you login this will be visible in your user profile box. I still say we should have "thumbs up/down" in comments because you can't go negative stars, or can you? Anyway, the star rating is the users "rank" or credibility rating, and would be visible anytime he/she votes, comments, etc.
3. Live Chat. Using something like 3-bubbles, a user could select "turn chat on" or "make chat available" button in his/her user profile. If "on" then an icon would appear next to their name when they are at the website and logged in. This way other users could better decide to engage a user in a live debate. Newsvine has live chat, but you don't have any idea who is online and thus few users if any are chatting. I think this would be a nice perk to keep people pligging.
That's it for now. I'm posting new pictures everyday at http://www.storylinker.com/media/ so please visit often. My idea here is to build the template with help from other pliggers, and turn everything over to Ash and Yank to include with the Pligg 8 release.

Everyone might want to take a look at this list of ideas that I've written down as a guideline for what we should aim for the next big release: http://www.pligg.com/wiki/index.php?title=Beta_8 I wrote this just before this thread was started, so I don't think that any of 3d's ideas are listed. I think that things like user ratings will come further down the road. Right now we are trying to decide what's most important and we're trying to cut the list down to size to something more appropriate. Right now the graphs, groups and badges are on the low priority list. |

Anyway, you've got some great ideas on that list! |

As requested by 3dKiller in a PM I sent to him. I like your ideas, I also love your theme. Which brings me to my question, would it be possible for you to package up your work with pligg 7 for easy installing? For some reason when I install pligg 7 along with the theme (forgot the name) I have issues with people trying to submit news, register or the theme just lookes all wrong. See for your self http://ordway.ath.cx:5121/otnews/ Anyway but ya my question is could you if its not to much trouble package up your pligg 7 with that cool theme and send to me? I would of course leave your name at the bottom as the creator so people could come to your site and get it later. Sorry for the bother im just sad that pligg 7 dosnt work right for me as a fresh install and I figure if its working for you it would be simple to just have you or someone that has it working to send me there files. Much thanks. |

I posted in an older end-user suggestions thread but I thought I'd toss in here too for good measure. I'd love to see something in Pligg that tracks the latest X comments. While the main goal of Pligg is to generate and qualify news by the users I think the community aspect is very important too -- especially for making a Pligg site 'stickier'. Moving our blog to Pligg as a test during E3 the biggest complaint was there was no sense of the flow of comments. People come to a Pligg entry for the news but they will come back to the same page again and again for the comments so I'd love to see it easier for them to see where the action is (plus this would feed off itself generating even more comments) via a 'latest comments' sidebar, page and/or RSS feed. Thanks for listening. |
